One Plan Makes Sense is a nonprofit corporation registered in the state of Colorado. We are in process of obtaining our 501(c)4 social welfare organization tax status from the IRS.

OUR MISSION AND VISION

EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE

- to educate the general public about national, universal, nonprofit, single-payer health insurance in simple, upfront, common sense way

1PLAN believes that most people in the U.S. do not know what "single-payer" health care/insurance is, and if they do, they are often misinformed i.e. cost, socialized medicine, horror stories, etc. We believe that, without the broad education of the general public about single-payer health insurance, a single-payer health care system will not become a legislative reality. Additionally, we believe it would behoove the single-payer movement to cater to the people that do not have much time or passion for this issue, by educating them in a simple, upfront, common sense way. For example, we would like to see a clear, simple description of "what single-payer is" in a primary location on the home page of every single-payer website.

COLLABORATE, COLLABORATE, COLLABORATE

- to help facilitate collaboration among other single-payer advocacy organizations and advocates

1PLAN believes that the single-payer movement will be best served through extensive and radical collaboration. We believe that sharing information and resources, and maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of single-payer advocacy work is essential to the success of the single-payer movement. We also believe that collaboration cultivates strength and diversity, which are additional key ingredients for success. We are passionate about collaboration and pursue this endeavor through a variety of means such as: facilitating connections, spearheading collaborative projects, leading groups and providing technology resources.

PURSUED WITH THE INTENTIONS

ENGAGE ALL STAKEHOLDERS, ESPECIALLY CONSERVATIVES IN A TRULY NON-PARTISAN WAY

1PLAN believes in the power and necessity of engaging all stakeholders, especially conservatives, insurance company employees and skeptics, and in framing single-payer in a truly non-partisan way. Because nearly everyone will be affected by single-payer legislation, we believe engagement and seeking of common ground will produce the best results. We do not believe single-payer is ultimately a partisan issue, and we believe the single-payer movement would benefit greatly from advocating in a vigilantly non-partisan way.

ADVOCATE WITH A NON-US-AGAINST-THEM APPROACH

1PLAN believes in using a respectful, persistent, non-us-against-them approach in line with the values of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. for all advocacy work. We believe that approaching problems with anger, abuse, a sense of violence and/or an us-against-the-bad-other attitude all decrease and drain energy, spirit, vitality, connection and effectiveness. We also believe that approach also tends to make outsiders focus on the negativity rather than the issue, and tends to incite the opposition to return the negativity in kind. We are committed to learning and re-learning how to take the "high road" of respect, openness and love, while steadfastly maintaining strength and persistence in our convictions that:

A national, universal, nonprofit, single-payer health care/insurance system that is publicly funded and privately delivered is the:

- most morally responsible - most fiscally conservative - most secure - least bureaucratic - least hassle prone

of any option we have as individuals, as family members, as business owners and as a nation. One plan makes sense!
